Did you know...?

A typical galaxy has 100,000,000,000 stars in it. That is a lot of stars! They don't often bump against each other, though, because galaxies are so big. In the center of our Galaxy, a star collision may occur once in 1,000 years.

The StarChild site is a service of the High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center (HEASARC), within the Astrophysics Science Division (ASD) at NASA/ GSFC.
