Schematic of the HEAO-2 satellite shows the focal plane instruments (at right) plus the associated electronics for operating the telescope and transmitting its observations to the ground. A fifth instrument, the Monitor Proportion Counter (MPC), was located on the front of the telescope and provides a means of correlating observations by other instruments.
