The Galileo space probe being deployed during STS-34

Shuttle

This wide angle photograph was taken from the Space Shuttle flight deck window which looks out over the cargo bay. The space probe Galileo can be seen mounted on a special rocket called the Upper Inertia Stage. This rocket gave Galileo the extra velocity it needed in order to reach its final destination, Jupiter.
